Mutant Long Legs

Bob Kowal

Facebook Album

Bob Kowal of Attic Hatch made this massive spider for his 2018 “Infestation OUTBREAK” Project. Pictured below is the initial sketch side-by-side with the end result.

Bob started by making a 1/4 scale mock-up of the skeletal structure, then created the full scale version using PVC pipe.

He made the abdomen frame out of 4mil coroplast, ¾’ foam board, zip ties and plastic drywall anchors.

The head was shaped using the Industrial Hot Knife and a few other hand tools.

Parts of the legs were cut out using the Industrial Hot Knife with the sled guide attachment.

In the image below, Bob begins putting the pieces onto the skeletal structure to make sure it all fits together properly.

After, the spider was disassembled for painting before final assembly. He started with two coats of grey primer, then one coat of black to add contrast. A dark grey was added for contrast and finally a Dayglo green to finish it off.
