How to Make a Bendy Skeleton Figure

A Halloween craft tutorial by Hot Wire Foam Factory

Download the pattern:

Materials needed:

  1. 1/2″ sheet of either EPS or XPS foam
  2. Pipe cleaners (black or white work best) or bendable wire
  3. Paper template (download above)
  4. Scissors or an Xacto Knife
  5. Thumb Tacks
  6. Black marker
  7. 3-Inch Hot Knife
  8. Original Scroll Table (Mini Scroll Table works too)
  9. StyroGoo

Step 1

Print out the template on an 8.5″x 11″ sheet of paper, then cut the pieces out with either scissors or an Xacto Knife.

Step 2

Pin the pieces to your foam sheet with thumb tacks or anything else that will hold them in place. (Use at least 2 thumb tacks for each piece.)

Step 3

Using the Original Scroll Table, carefully cut out each piece. This can also be done with the 3-Inch Hot Knife and a steady hand, but the Scroll Table makes it significantly easier. When the pieces are cut out, use the 3-Inch Hot Knife to cut out the spaces in the forearms and shins.

Step 4

Turn the heat off on your 3-Inch Hot Knife and use it to gently poke holes for the pipe cleaners. Use extra care when poking holes through skinnier pieces like the forearms, shins, and ribs so that you don’t accidentally poke through the sides. For the shins and forearms, I recommend not sticking the pipe cleaners all the way through and instead cutting them so they go through one end, stop part way, then another pipe cleaner goes part way through the other end.

Step 5

Insert the pipe cleaners into the holes you created, then glue them in place with StyroGoo.

Step 6

Use a marker to draw a design on the skeleton.
