Reclaimed Surfboard Art Pieces
Mark Hubbard of Surfing Turtle Studios
Mark uses his love for surfing and skill in art to create incredible art pieces out of old EPS surfboards and surfboard blanks. His pieces feature beautiful oceanscapes brought to life with rich color palettes and 3D elements.

“I am a husband, father of 4 and Papi to 7 of the coolest humans God ever created. I make my living as a residential renovation contractor. In my early 40’s, a friend of mine convinced me to learn how to surf seeing as how the ocean was just 10 minutes from the house. Despite being crushed by the first several waves, nearly drowning and giving up before ever getting started, I eventually caught my first wave and have been hooked ever since.”

“I saw a carved and painted board done by Ruben Aria in a gallery in Hawaii several years ago while on vacation, got inspired and went back home to grab an old blank I had laying around and dug in. I’ve been carving and painting them ever since combining my love of the ocean, surfing and an artistic creativity that I’ve always seemed to have. I love rescuing old boards and taking them from trash to treasure.”

Mark’s coating of choice for his surfboard art pieces is our Styroplast!
“One word: perfect! If you recall, I was concerned to keep detail and add strength. It did just what you guys said it would and made the extensions of the material I added to the surfboard board carvings super strong without compromising any of the details I had wanted to keep. In fact, I’d say that the strength part far exceeded my expectations to the point I could literally carry the whole thing around (with confidence) by one of the protruding octopus arms.”
