Cotton Candy Cauldron
Kara Kent
Kara came up with an incredible idea for a Halloween haunt prop that’s both decorative and functional: a witch’s cauldron that doubles as a cotton candy machine! The cauldron comes equipped with eerie lighting effects and a full fog dispenser system.
She started out by drawing the profile of the walls, then cutting that profile out of EPS foam into several ribs with the Industrial Scroll Table.

From there, she used spray foam to attach the ribs to the bottom plate and fill in the gaps between the ribs. She then trimmed the excess with a serrated knife and sanded it smooth.
(Note from Hot Wire Foam Factory: Be careful when using spray foams. While spray foam cuts cleanly with our tools, we do not recommend cutting it with heat because it creates toxic fumes. If you decide to cut it anyways, always always always use a properly rated respirator!)

Next, she cut out the rib pieces that sit above the cabinet for the cotton candy machine.

From there, she made shelves for the cotton candy machine cabinet out of plywood and cut out channels for the fog system with the Cordless Industrial Hot Knife and Sled Guide.

Once the surface was sanded smooth, she attached some ring handles to the sides and coated it to fill in the gaps and smooth the surface.

She used spray foam to texturize the surface of the cauldron, then coated the entire thing in Styroplast.

Next, she sanded the surface down a bit and spray painted it with oil rubbed bronze metallic spray paint.

For the coals on the bottom of the cauldron, she used spray foam, glowing string lights, and prop bones spray painted black with a white dry brush.

To finish it off, she painted rust spots and attached a plastic bubble-textured cap.
