Spooky Town Railroad Display
Casey Rummerfield
Casey created this amazingly eerie Halloween village for his garage haunt display, featuring multi-level platforms and a model train set that goes around part of the display.
“So when I start a platform project I first get an idea, measure to see how many houses I can put on it and make a rough sketch. I then go through my pile of scrap foam and start cutting with your Scroll Table. I always go through packages my wife and I get to look for extra foam I can use later. After several test-fits I use water activated foam glue to attach the pieces, clamp and let the assembly sit overnight. The next day I test fit the assemblies and make adjustments as needed.”

“Using your Hot Knife, I make holes on the bases to use as electrical wire guides. Now the fun part. I use your Sculpting Tool to create the mountainside rough edges and notches.”

“I 3D printed a holder for your Hot Knife. This helps guide the blade at a perpendicular angle to the foam.”
”Next using latex paint I cover the foam with a base coat of brown, black or gray. Then dry brush a highlight color on. Finally cut and glue on a landscape mat.”

“On the platform with the train track I made a short “brick” wall to keep coiled electrical wires from falling on the track.”

“Your imagination is your only limit but it’s important to plan ahead and understand that some of the little houses have some weight to them, so you will have to account for that.”
