Marc Spess uses foam to create 3-D sets used in his stop motion clay animation movies.
“Here is a set I did a while ago. The foreground trees, the hills in the back, and the entire floor of the set are made of foam. For texture, the set floor was painted with plaster, and then acrylic paints. The trees are a sandwich of three layers of foam that were glued together, and sandpaper used to make the lines in them. The picture is dark so you probably can’t see the lines, but your engraver would have done a much nicer job. The tiny trees are made of wood dowels with moss glued to the ends. Thanks very much!”
