Multi-Level Christmas Village
Ken and Audrey Weinberg
Ken and Audrey Weinberg put together this beautiful multi-level Christmas Village display using Hot Wire Foam Factory products.
“For years we have used snow blankets for our Dept 56 Christmas Village. This year we decided it was way overdue to upgrade our village layout using Styrofoam to create multi-levels and realistic hills.
The L-shape platform measuring 32??? x 96??? and 32??? x 72??? is ½??? OSB on a 2??? x 4??? frame is supported by saw horses. We used Foam Fusion to attach the bottom level to the OSB. While the Foam Fusion was setting-up, we took the Styrofoam blocks we had previously glued together, again using Foam Fusion, and sculpted them using the Sculpting Tool and Freehand Router. The Precision Engraver was used for final and finer details.
After the hills and tiers were as we wanted, they were glued into place using Foam Fusion. After the Foam Fusion was set-up, we used the Freehand Router and Precision Engraver to make the final tweaks and adjustments.
To finish, 2 coats of All-Purpose Foam Coat were applied. When the Foam Coat was hardened, 2 coats of Acrylic Latex were applied. The blue-sky backdrop is made of blue sheets with LED net lights hung behind.
This was our first-time using Styrofoam and was a lot of fun experimenting to get the right design and detail we wanted. A huge improvement over our previous village layouts.
We are now planning realistic layouts for our many other Holiday displays…Thanks HWFF!”
