Snoopy’s Dog House
Photo prop used by local animal shelter
By Eco Mouse, LLC
Here’s what I ended up creating for a local animal rescue. They will pose dogs in front of, and on top of the house to take their photographs to be adopted. Which is why the removable top. Used your Industrial Hot Knife with Sled to carve the wood panel sides and a slightly different profile for the roof shingles.
Coated the whole thing in Styroplast. I first coat the whole foam project with Alex (non-silicone latex based caulking) and wet it smooth with my hands. The Styroplast sticks to it great, and it keeps it from acting like coated sandpaper from tiny nits and ticks on the foam, that otherwise feels smooth, until you go to coat it. Gave me a smooth, cartoony finish, which is what I was going for.
I prefer working with extruded foam, even though it’s harder and harder to locate in my area. StyroGoo actually worked pretty well, even though it took longer to set-up, but was more forgiving on not-quite-perfect seams and joints.
Now I need more of your tools, so I can do more of these types of projects!
(Pro-Tip: Using gloved hands to apply large amounts of Styroplast is the way to go. Brushes or rollers takes too much time and never quite gets into every nook and cranny before it starts to heat up and kick off)
