Jason constructed this menacing Tyrannosaurus Rex head out of EPS foam as part of a dinosaur-themed store display, featuring detailed scaly skin and rows of sharp teeth.

“I was commissioned by a vintage Toy Store in Elizabethtown, Pa. to create a T-Rex that could be on permanent display, and used to showcase their Dino Toy Section. I’ve always been a fan of Jurassic Park, so I used their T-Rex images to create this quarter scale version.”

“I began the process by cutting the basic form of the head out using a 6-Inch Hot Knife.”

‍‍

“As I began to detail it out, I used a drywall saw, dremmel, and palm sander.”

‍‍

“Final scale texture was created using a Sculpting Tool and a heat gun to soften the edges.”

“The 6-Inch hot knife and Sculpting Tool made it easy to cut and detail the EPS foam. I prefer using these tools over Manuel and Power Saws as they prevent dust and foam particles from covering the floor. The hot knife provides smooth and effortless cutting through thick pieces of dense foam.”
