Farley’s Spooky Town Halloween Village

Joanne Shiely

Joanne Shiely crafted this spectacularly spooky multi-level Halloween village display to decorate her niece’s condo. She first started making villages when she wanted to make Christmas decorations for her grandchildren. This particular village drew a lot of inspiration from Mike Landry of Village Vignettes, another excellent village artist featured on our gallery.

“The project is 8-feet by 3.5-feet and consists of 5 separate platforms. I used the 6-Inch Hot Knife, Freehand Router, Engraver Tool, 3-Inch Hot Knife, and Sculpting Tool. First, I did a rough layout to determine where buildings go, possible pathways, stairs, and height variations to make the town visually interesting.”

“I watched Mike Landry’s “Village Vignettes” YouTube videos to learn painting techniques.”

“I added two different grass applications (fine turf and static) and a lagoon water feature (Woodland Scenics’ Realistic Water, plaster cloth, and flex paste).”

“This project was a gift to my niece (she had the buildings but was using a very primitive platform). Your products are so helpful, as are your videos that you send and post on your website.”

Be sure to check out Mike Landry’s village display here.
