Bomboogie 20-Foot RC B-17
Flite Test
To celebrate achieving 2 million subscribers on their YouTube channel, the Flite Test crew set out to build a gigantic B-17 RC bomber. The goal was to incorporate moving turrets, laser tag components with FPV setups programed by Wesley, and functioning bomb bay doors to unveil at Flite Fest 2022 for a big aerial battle.
The RC plane gets its name from a B-17 known as the “Bomboogie” which flew 99 missions in WWII, 44 of which were flown by the grandfather of two Flite Test community members, Adam and Kevin, who work with the Liberty Foundation and the Champaign Aviation Museum.
Series Parts:
The plane was finished in time for Flite Test 2022, where it flew beautifully.
Video of Part 13:
To conclude the B-17s journey, they setup a laser tag battle where two planes face off against the B-17. The goal of the plane pilots was to get the smoke bombs mounted to each nacelle of the B-17 to trigger. They ran into some issues with the first laser tag battle at Flite Fest, but they patched everything up and had a successful round 2.
